After last month announcing that it intends to stamp out the potential threats posed by social casino games, The Netherlands Gaming Authority has now reprimanded numerous local operators for advertising their wares on child-orientated websites.

Also known as the Kansspelautoriteit, The Netherlands Gaming Authority has officially admonished the nation’s sole casino operator, Holland Casino, along with lottery firms BankGiro Loterij, Nationale Postcode Loterij and Staatsloterij while ordering them to ‘stop advertising specifically aimed at young people’.

“The Netherlands Gaming Authority pays extra attention to this topic because participation in gambling can cause damage to juveniles,” read a statement from the regulator. “The Netherlands Gaming Authority noted that the organizations advertise on websites targeting young people. Those gambling providers, all in possession of a gambling license, should stop immediately and must also take measures to prevent repetition.”

In hopes of ‘ending the violation and preventing repetition’, The Netherlands regulator stated that it will now impose a fine of up to €100,000 ($115,869) on any gambling operator that is found to have marketed its services towards minors or ‘re-advertised on youth sites’.

“The Netherlands Gaming Authority, the regulator in the gaming market for the purposes of providing a safe and reliable games offer, has already advised license holders on their advertising messages,” read the statement from the regulator.
